Extruded Rubber Products
An extruded rubber product differs from a molded rubber product in that the uncured rubber is forced through a die of the desired cross-section under pressure from an extruder. The extruded product is then vulcanized, or cured, in a heated pressure vessel known as an autoclave. Extruded parts can be made in sizes ranging from 1/8" in diameter to a rectangular cross-section of up to 6" by 12" and in continuous lengths of up to 60 feet. MSO Seals and Gaskets, Inc. can manufacture extruded rubber into circular or rectangular gaskets by means of butt- or corner-vulcanized splices.
MSO Seals manufactures the following extruded rubber products:
- O-Ring Cord
- Rectangular
- Square
- Odd Shapes
- Tubing
- Pads
- Bumpers
- Channels
- "P" Shapes
- Window Seals
- Door Seals
- Valve Seals
- Gate Seals
- "J" Seals
- "T" Shapes, and more

MSO seals and gaskets ,inc manufacturer of hydraulic seals pneumatic seals and oil seals and gaskets also extruder of all type of shapes.
All seals are made from a superior rubber compound that has been time tested and approved by the U.S. Corps of Engineers. Over these 40 years, we have accumulated well over $100,000 in tooling that enables us to furnish these seals fully molded, in continuous lengths, and with fully molded corners. Both solid and hollow bulb constructions are readily available, with either a plain or TFE clad finish. Now, it's time to introduce these MSO seals and gaskets ,inc. capabilities to the rest of the world.

SILICONE PRODUCTSThe most outstanding characteristic of Silicone rubber is the retention or its many desirable properties over the very wide temperature range of -148º F to 600º F (-100º C to 315º C). It's impervious to water and oil, and has chemical and fuel resistance at temperatures which precludes the use of other chemical resistant elastomers, with the possible exception of fluoroelastomers. It has great electrical properties, and retains dielectric strength, power factor and insulation resistance over its' wide temperature range. It has good weathering resistance; sunlight, ozone, oxygen, bacteria, fungus, soil chemicals, etc. have very little deteriorating effect.
State-of-the-art synchronized extrusion & continuous cure systems enable us to producer extruded profiles to extremely close tolerances and exacting specifications. Continuous lengths or spliced parts from silicone extrusions are our forte.

Homogeneous, fabric reinforced and bonded-to-metal silicone moldings are time-tested custom made products also available from mso seals and gaskets ,inc Our entire Silicone Department is "housed" in a separate air-conditioned building to prevent contamination from outside sources. Quality products are the result of this magnificient facility.

Lathe cut products are manufactured from a cylindrical tube of rubber by inserting a mandrel into the tube and cutting the finished dimensions with a knife while the mandrel is being turned at high speed in a lathe-type machine. Lathe cut products have numerous applications including: seals, drive belts, feed wheels, vibration dampeners, bumpers, bushings and insulators. |

PROPERTIES OF COMMON RUBBER ELASTOMERS
Natural Rubber (NR) (Gum)
As the name would indicate, this elastomer occurs naturally and comes from the latex of certain trees and plants. After the latex is processed, it becomes an elastomer with excellent mechanical properties. It has excellent tensile, elongation, tear resistance and resilience. It has good abrasion resistance and excellent low temperature flexibility. Without special additives, it has poor resistance to ozone, oxygen, sunlight and heat. It has poor resistance to solvents and petroleum products. Useful temperature range is -67º F to +180º F (-55º C to +82º C).
Nitrile / Buna-N (NBR) (Hycar) (Chemigum)
This is a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. It has excellent physical properties, however its claim to fame is based on its resistance to water, petroleum products and fuels. When compounded properly, it has good low temperature properties as well as good heat resistance. It does not have good ozone, oxygen or sunlight resistance without the addition of special additives. Useful temperature range is -40º F to +275º F (-40º C to +135º C).
Neoprene / Chloroprene (CR)
This elastomer is made by the polymerization of Chloroprene. It has excellent physical properties. It is moderately resistant to petroleum products, sunlight, ozone and heat. It is flame resistant and will not support combustion. Useful temperature range is -40º F to +275º F (-40º C to +135º C).
Ethylene-Propylene (EPDM) (EPR)
This is a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and a diene monomer. It has outstanding resistance to oxygen, ozone, and sunlight. Its resistance to polar materials such as phosphate esters, many ketones and alcohol. It has good electrical properties, low temperature flexibility, excellent heat, water and steam resistance. Its resistance to petroleum products is poor. Useful temperature range is -58º F to +300º F (-50º C to +150º C).
Hypalon (CSM)
Hypalon is a chlor-sulfonated polyethylene. It has outstanding oxygen, ozone and weather resistance. It has excellent resistance to corrosive chemicals as well as oil and grease. It has excellent abrasion resistance and excellent tensile and elongation. Useful temperature range is -67º F to +320º F (-50º C to +160º C).
Styrene Butadiene (SBR) (Buna-S) (GRS)
This is a copolymer of styrene and butadiene. It has similar properties to natural rubber. Its resistance to solvents and petroleum products is about the same as natural rubber. Water resistance is better. Without special additives, it is vulnerable to ozone, oxygen and sunlight. Useful temperature range is -67º F to +180º F (-55º C to +82º C).
Silicone
Silicone is made from sand and alkyl or aryl halides. It is predominately inorganic material. It has outstanding resistance to temperature extremes. It has excellent vibration damping, and reasonable physical properties such as tensile and elongation. Tear and abrasion resistance are generally poor. Useful temperature range is -148º F to +600º F (-100º C to +315º C).
Carboxylated Nitrile (CNBR)
This terpolymer has the excellent water, oil and fuel resistance of conventional NBR. It has superior abrasion resistance and load bearing capabilities. It retains good physical properties over a useful temperature range of -40º F to +300º F (-40º C to +150º C).
Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR)
This polymer is produced by complete or partial hydrogenation of NBR. The result is a polymer with outstanding physical properties. It has good mechanical properties at elevated temperature. It has excellent resistance to many chemically aggressive technical oils. Its useful temperature range is -40º F to +300º F (-40º C to +150º C).
