Gasket Production Processes
Laser Cutting Gaskets
Our experienced staff at MSO Seals & Gaskets can furnish your custom gaskets to your specification using laser cutting technology. Laser cutting is a technology that uses a laser to cut materials, which is used in the production line and is typically used for industrial manufacturing applications. Laser cutting works by directing the output of a high power laser, by computer, at the material to be cut. The material then either melts, burns, vaporizes away, or is blown away by a jet of gas, leaving an edge with a high quality surface finish. Industrial laser cutters are used to cut flat-sheet material as well as structural and piping materials.
.
Plasma Cutting Gaskets
Plasma cutting is one method used at MSO Seals and Gaskets to manufacture gaskets. Plasma cutting is a process that is used to cut steel and other metals (or sometimes other materials) using a plasma torch. In this process, an inert gas (in some units, compressed air) is blown at high speed out of a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed through that gas from the nozzle to the surface being cut, turning some of that gas to plasma. The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the cut.
.
CNC Router Cutting Gaskets
A CNC Router is used to make useful parts for projects or complete projects. A complete project can be a 3 dimensional carving. Parts of a project can be made and then assembled to produce a complete project like a robot. The CNC router works like a printer. You compose your work on the computer and then send the design or drawing to the CNC router for the hard copy. This outputs a 3 dimensional copy of your work. The CNC router uses a cutting tool instead of an ink jet. The cutting tool is generally a router but other cutters can be used as well. The CNC router can be fitted with a laser, plasma torch, or knife.

Water Jet Cutting
Water jet cutting systems include:
- Part tolerance up to ± .005"
- Machine repeatability ± .001"
- Machine speeds up to 3600 inches per minute
Also we offer abrasive jet cutting. With an abrasive jet, more difficult materials can be cleanly and quickly cut that would render a standard water jet system useless. An abrasive jet can cut nearly anything. Materials most commonly cut by the abrasive jet include rubber, urethane, paper, gasketing, fiberglass, armor glass, composites, wood, plastics, Kevlar®, carbon, steel, carbide, titanium, G-10, metal matrix, aluminum, brass, cooper, marble, granite, Lexan®, graphite, ceramics, glass, etc.
